The goal is simple: help businesses achieve better web performance to enhance user experience and boost SEO rankings.

We’re currently seeking a passionate and technically skilled Web Performance Advocate and Technical Writer. In this role, you’ll dive deep into web performance optimization and create engaging, high-quality technical content. For example, you may explore complex topics such as optimizing the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) metric or investigate how browser extensions like Chrome affect site performance.

As a small, tight-knit team with just two full-time members, your contributions will directly influence our growth and the value we provide to our customers. You’ll work closely with the founder, providing an excellent opportunity to shape DebugBear’s future and reach a larger audience.

About the Role: Responsibilities of a Web Performance Advocate

The Web Performance Advocate/Technical Writer role is an exciting, flexible position. Your primary responsibility will be to create high-quality content around web performance topics, but the role offers ample opportunity to grow into additional areas based on your interests and expertise.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Write high-quality articles on web performance: You will be tasked with writing engaging, educational articles about various web performance topics such as improving Core Web Vitals, optimizing website loading speed, and understanding key performance indicators for websites.
  • Interpret results from web performance tests: DebugBear generates complex reports, and you’ll help interpret this data and present it in an easy-to-understand manner to our audience.
  • Update and improve existing content: As web technologies evolve, so does our knowledge base. You will keep our articles and guides up to date with the latest best practices in web performance.

In the process of writing articles, you will:

  • Collaborate on content ideas: You’ll discuss article topics with the team to determine which subjects will offer the most value to our users.
  • Conduct thorough research: You’ll research both well-established best practices and emerging trends in the web performance space to create highly valuable, authoritative content.
  • Create test environments: You might create simple test websites to experiment with new browser features or web technologies.
  • Analyze data using tools like Lighthouse: Running performance tests on multiple URLs, you’ll generate actionable insights that can be turned into useful guides or case studies for our audience.
  • Collaborate with the founder: You’ll work directly with our founder to review your content, ensuring it aligns with our brand’s tone and provides value to our users.

Additional Responsibilities

Beyond content creation, the role offers room to expand into other areas, including:

  • Build tools for testing site performance: You may have the chance to work on new, free tools that enhance our platform’s functionality.
  • Customer support for web performance issues: From time to time, you’ll help customers understand how they can optimize their websites for better performance.
  • Maintain product documentation: You’ll ensure that all technical documentation remains accurate, comprehensive, and easy to understand.
  • Create educational videos: If you enjoy video content creation, you could produce video tutorials to accompany written guides.

The role is flexible, and we are open to discussing how your personal strengths can align with DebugBear’s goals.

About You: The Ideal Candidate
